Current Government Incentives for the installation of alternative technologies are feed in tariffs

Generation tariff: a fixed payment from your electricity supplier for every unit of energy or kilowatt hour (kWh) generated (the 'generation tariff') for a period of 25 years for solar PV.

Export tariff: if you do not use the electricity on-site you can export it to the grid. You will get a guaranteed minimum payment (3p/kWh) additional to the generation tariff for every kWh exported to the grid (the 'export tariff').

So, if you install Solar PV on your existing roof you will receive 41.3p per unit for all electricity generated for that year, in addition to the savings made from your electricity bills by using electricity generated by your Solar PV system. The feed in tariffs will be available for 25 years.

This means a cash reward for a typical 2.5 kw system of up to £900 plus a saving of £140 in electricity bills*

Feed in Tariffs are given below:

Do I need planning permission?

If you are installing a small-scale solar system it is possible that you will not need planning permission. However, because there are a number of instances where planning permission is required, for example in the case of listed buildings, you should always contact your local district or borough council and speak to a planner before proceeding.
